Police were called after a side-door burglar alarm was activated at the new site of Ah’ Pizz on Route 46 just after 10 p.m. last Thursday, Detective Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Nicholas V. Yacullo, 49, and Michael V. Yacullo, 26, were spotted by Detectives Ken Hart, Mark Ciavirella and John Malenich on surveillance video at the business -- formerly the Tilted Kilt -- Martin said.

The Yacullos, whose last known address was on Route 23 in Hamburg (Sussex County), were staying at the Ramada By Wyndham next door, the captain said.

They’d apparently forced their way into the new restaurant, he said.

Hart, along with Officer Denis Zamora and Sgt. Rod Daroch arrested both men at the hotel on Sunday, Martin said.

They charged both with burglary. Michael Yacullo also was charged with criminal mischief and released.

His father, it turned out, was also wanted on a warrant out of Passaic County, records show.

The elder Yacullo was taken to the Passaic County Jail because of the warrant -- only to be ordered released by a judge hours later under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law.
